Tresta is a small hamlet on the West-side of Shetland. It is on the main route West from Shetland, and is very easily accessible, both by car and public transport. It is around a 25 minute drive from the main town of Lerwick. We would advise allowing an hour to drive to the airport in Sumburgh at the Southern tip of Shetland.
The closest shop is 3 miles away. The local shops are very well stocked, and opening times are variable, especially on a Sunday. We would encourage you to shop locally, however, there are two supermarkets in the main town of Lerwick, with longer opening hours if required.
The Old Moorens is in a perfect location from which to explore all parts of Mainland and the other islands too. The accommodation was very clean and well appointed and provided us with all that we needed for a most enjoyable stay. Jacqueline is a lovely host and we have no hesitation in recommending The Old Moorens to fellow travellers.
Old Moorens is perfectly placed to explore Shetland. Western Mainland is beautiful and I would never tire of looking at the gorgeous views from the windows. We highly recommend staying here - you won't be disappointed!
The Old Moorens is situatued on a croft (or small farmstead), which has belonged in our family for over 100 years. The house is soaked in character and history and is, as you’d imagine, very special to us. The land is now mainly used for sheep grazing at various times of the year.
There is a burn (or stream), which runs through the croft and offers a beautiful array of wild flowers during the summer months. There is also direct access to a beach, where many wild birds nest. A walk on our beach can either be peaceful on a calm summers evening, or bracing and invigorating on a windy day.
Thank you for supporting our family business by booking direct.
